GTIN-14

*GTIN-14 using GS1-128 symbology

GTIN-14 (SCC-14) is a 14-digit number assigned to fixed content shipping containers. There are two distinct options for representing the GTIN-14 in a barcode. One uses the GS1-128 symbology with the Application Identifier (01) and the other one uses the ITF-14 symbology, which does not use an Application Identifier. The GTIN-14 is known by several different names throughout the world, such as SCC-14, DUN-14 or U.P.C. Shipping Container Code. However, the formal global name is GTIN-14.

GTIN-14 Data Structure:

PI is an Indicator digit assigned by a particular member company using the following logic:

  • 0 indicates the product number on the container GTIN-14) is different from the product number(s) on the item(s) inside the container (GTIN-12, GTIN-13, or GTIN-14). These are standard or fixed assortments/kits. When the shipping unit contains a quantity of one selling unit, such as a television set, the Indicator digit "0" is used.
  • 1-8 indicates different physical containers (packs) of goods which share a common N number (Positions 2 - 13) with each other. For example, all the items within the shipping container share the same GTIN-12.
  • 9 indicates the amount of product inside the container varies from container to container even though the containers share a common N number (Positions two through thirteen). Note: The quantity of the product inside must be provided through use of the mandatory GS1-128 Application Identifiers (30) or (3000) - (3999) series.

N (Positions 2 - 13) is a unique number consisting of two parts: a GS1 Company Prefix assigned by GS1 or EAN International to identify a member company and an identification number assigned by the member company to a product. For example most companies use their GTIN-12.

C is a check digit.
