Notes
The product label is required for single title cartons only. No product label is required for mixed title cartons, when mixed titles are permitted by the Barnes & Noble purchase order.
Zone 1 – Mandatory for Book Cartons Received at Barnes & Noble
The information in Zone 1 is to include the title, author, publisher, on-sale date, and printing location.
Zone 2 – Optional for Book Cartons Received at Barnes & Noble
If the purchase order number from the publisher to the bindery is bar-coded, the encoding must use the AI (Application Indicator) ‘251' for the Publisher Purchase Order and the literal PPON, (“Publisher Purchase Order Number”). This will clearly distinguish this data from the Barnes & Noble purchase order number to the publisher located on the shipping label.
Zone 3 – Mandatory for Book Cartons Received at Barnes & Noble
The information in Zone 3 includes carton quantity, carton weight, ISBN, and cover (suggested list) price. When books do not carry a suggested list price, the price bar code is omitted and replaced with the literal “ $NET ”.
After January 1, 2007, the human-readable ISBN printed above the ISBN bar code must be the ISBN-13. Dual coding (continuing to include ISBN-10) is permissible at the option of the publisher . |
